GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 2nd. March, 1917.

I have the honour to inform you that I have

-

received an application from Mr. R. J. Stevenson, Electrician in the Public Works Department requesting that he may be given a statur equivalent to that of a Second Grade Assistant Engineer.

2.

Mr. Stevenson at present receives 2360 £420 by 230 triemially with an allowance of £480 per annum until such time as quarters to be rented to him are erected by Government, whereas an Assistant Engineer 2nd. Grade receives 2560 - #450 by £10 annually, with duty pay of $40 per annum. Mr. Stevenson received his present scale of salary on the 1st. January. His previous salary was £330 pər ammum.

3.

I enclose a report from Mr. Perkins, Executive Engineer, from which you will see that Mr. Stevenson's work has largely increased and as the Director of Public Works reports that Mr. Stevenson has performed his duties in m exemplary manner,

I bet to recommend that he be granted annual increments of £10 (instead of triamial increments of 230) with effect from lat. January, 1917.

I do not recommend any alteration in the maximum of his salary or in the title of his office.

I have the homur to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Bu. Governor,&c..

E RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M.P.,
